Authorities have verified that a military helicopter went down in central Texas, leading to two fatalities. Responding officers reached the crash site in fields located south of Salado at approximately 13:33 local time following an emergency report.
According to military representatives, the aircraft involved was an AH-64 Apache attack helicopter originating from the nearby Fort Hood US Army installation. Cliff Coleman, a spokesperson for the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, noted that the crash resulted in a fire that spread rapidly upon the arrival of emergency teams.
The US Army has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash while local teams handle the immediate response. Brig Gen Ethan Diven, acting commanding general of the 1st Cavalry Division, stated that the primary focus is currently on securing the area and providing support for those affected by the loss.
