Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has vowed to provide assistance to the relatives of 10 police officers who lost their lives in a confrontation with suspected bandits in the Sakaba Local Government Area. The governor shared this commitment while hosting a police delegation headed by Deputy Inspector-General of Police for Operations, Umar Shehu-Nadada, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
Reports confirm that the officers died near the Rafin Makuku area of Sakaba while intercepting gunmen traveling between Zamfara and Kebbi. During the intense firefight, security forces neutralized 17 suspected bandits and destroyed four of their motorcycles. Tragically, two civilians were also killed, and two police officers were wounded in the exchange.
Governor Idris expressed his sympathies to both the police force and the bereaved families. He highlighted that these officers were assigned to the region to help combat terrorism and criminal threats. Affirming the state’s dedication, the governor stated that Kebbi has a history of standing by the families of those who perish in the line of duty, and he promised to assist them during this trying time.
Furthermore, the governor reiterated his administration’s resolve to back security agencies in their mission to dismantle criminal networks. He emphasized that the state would not allow any area to fall under the control of terrorists. Representing the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the visiting delegation extended condolences and confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the violence.
