Youri Tielemans has joined Manchester United on a five-year contract after the club activated a 35 million pound release clause. The 29-year-old Belgian international admitted that while he feels immense gratitude toward Aston Villa for helping him regain his best form, he views the move to Old Trafford as a significant progression in his professional career.
The midfielder noted that Manchester United had previously shown interest in 2019 and 2022, but the timing was never quite right. During his recent World Cup participation, he remained calm about his future until the deal was finalized. Tielemans is now focused on finding success with his new team and building a connection with captain Bruno Fernandes, whom he believes is easy to partner with on the pitch.
Having debuted for Anderlecht at age 16, Tielemans has accumulated 668 career appearances. While he recently withdrew from a World Cup quarter-final due to physical fatigue, he maintains that he is generally durable and will communicate openly with head coach Michael Carrick if he requires rest.
Settling into the club has been aided by familiar faces such as Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, and Marcus Rashford. Carrick has encouraged Tielemans to play with tactical freedom while adhering to the team’s possession-based structure. The midfielder hopes to provide the vision and creative passing needed to improve United’s control during matches.
