The Nigeria Customs Service Seme Border Command has successfully stopped a large shipment of illegal goods, including dangerous explosives, hazardous expired noodles, and illicit drugs. Comptroller Abdullahi Kaila announced that these seizures were the result of strategic surveillance and intelligence operations aimed at curbing cross-border crime.
Officers discovered over 1,300 sacks of spoiled noodles weighing 50 kilograms each. Kaila noted that smugglers intended to relabel these rotting food items for public sale, which would have posed severe health risks to consumers. Additionally, the command confiscated over 1,200 bags of foreign rice smuggled through unauthorized paths.
Drug enforcement efforts led to the recovery of 373 parcels of marijuana along with hundreds of packs of controlled pharmaceutical substances like Tramaking and Royal Tapentadol. Furthermore, officials seized 310,000 cigarette sticks. Most concerning was the discovery of 3,300 explosive cartridges, which have been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit to prevent their use in violent crimes.
Including various vehicles and watercraft, the total value of the seized goods reached N365.1 million. Financially, the command reported a strong performance, generating N19.8 billion in revenue between January and July 2026, marking a 24.45 percent growth compared to the same period in 2025.
