Adam Ramsay-Peaty experienced his first-ever defeat at the European Aquatics Championships, placing fifth in the 100m breaststroke final held in Paris. Before this result, the 31-year-old had accumulated 16 gold medals and remained undefeated in every heat, semi-final, and final he had entered at the event.
Olympic titleholder Nicolo Martinenghi secured the top spot with a finishing time of 58.58 seconds, followed by Ivan Kozhakin and Simone Cerasuolo. Ramsay-Peaty clocked in at 59.10 seconds, finishing just ahead of British teammate Filip Nowacki. This performance was an improvement of 0.55 seconds compared to his recent efforts at the Commonwealth Games.
In other events, British swimmer Katie Shanahan earned gold in the 200m backstroke, finishing over a second ahead of the competition. Additionally, 23-year-old Angharad Evans set a new championship record in the women’s 100m breaststroke semi-final with a time of 1:04.97.
