Soldiers from Sector 1 of Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) successfully freed two individuals abducted by gunmen in the Jos North area of Plateau State. The victims, Samson Chiroma and Nathaniel Nwase, were seized around 11:00 p.m. on August 9 as they traveled home to the ECWA Staff Quarters.
Acting on a distress alert, the military collaborated with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria to track the captors. According to military reports, the security team engaged the kidnappers, whose tactical disadvantage forced them to release the captives and retreat into the nearby mountains. While the victims returned to their families without physical injury, the assailants managed to flee with several personal belongings, including a laptop and two phones.
Authorities are currently conducting an active search operation to locate and arrest the fugitives. This incident underscores the importance of the partnership between security personnel and community vigilante groups in addressing threats to local safety across Plateau State.
