Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, is ramping up his efforts to secure Federal Government support for essential road infrastructure. These projects are vital for the state’s agriculture, industry, commerce, and tourism sectors. The governor visited Abuja on Monday to meet with the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, to urge for faster progress on these infrastructure initiatives.
A primary point of discussion was the Gombe-Biu section of the Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe-Biu-Maiduguri Super Highway. Governor Yahaya emphasized that this corridor is crucial for the North-East region and requested that construction begin immediately following the recent groundbreaking ceremony. Additionally, he highlighted the need for northern and southern bypasses around Gombe metropolis to improve traffic flow and boost economic connectivity.
Minister Umahi affirmed that the Gombe-Biu project remains a priority for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He praised Hitech Construction Company for their capability and promised to review the governor’s requests for immediate construction. The minister lauded Governor Yahaya’s persistent leadership, noting that his visit to Gombe left a strong impression regarding the state’s developmental progress.
The discussion also covered other significant routes, including the Gombe-Bajoga-Potiskum, Gombe-Dukku-Darazo, and Gombe-Bauchi corridors. These roads are considered essential links for trade and agriculture between Gombe and its neighbors. The ongoing partnership between the state and federal government aims to enhance regional mobility and foster economic growth across the North-East.
