General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba, and Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu are set to headline the launch of The Vanguard Chronology: 40 Years of Nigeria’s Leading Tabloid. This book, organized by the Vanguard Media Alumni Association, marks forty years of the newspaper’s influence on national journalism. The event will take place on August 19, 2026, at The Civic Centre in Lagos.
Chief Osoba will preside over the ceremony, with Dr. Gbemiga Ogunleye, former editor of The Punch, providing a book review. Inspector-General Disu is scheduled to present the keynote speech, focusing on media partnerships in tackling national security challenges. The book details the newspaper’s growth from its inception to its status as a prominent media entity, covering its historical role in shaping political and social discourse.
Pastor Eyobong Ita, chairman of the alumni association, noted that the work pays homage to the professionals who established the outlet’s reputation. Beyond documenting history, the publication aims to motivate upcoming journalists by emphasizing the value of integrity. The gathering also serves to honor Vanguard founder Sam Amuka, who recently celebrated his 91st birthday.
