Lawmakers in the Adamawa State House of Assembly have initiated the formal procedure to modify the Adamawa State Chiefs’ (Appointment and Deposition) (Amendment) Law 2024. This legislative update aims to establish provisions for gratuity payments and death benefits for the region’s top traditional authorities.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri submitted the proposal for consideration. During the Monday plenary session, Speaker Bathiya Wesley read the Governor’s official communication regarding the legal adjustment. Following this introduction, the Speaker instructed the head of the Committee on Rules and Business to arrange for the bill’s first reading during the upcoming session.
Currently, the state recognizes 14 emirs and chiefs across the first, second, and third-class categories. This structure follows the Fintiri administration’s establishment of five new chiefdoms and two emirates earlier in 2024.
