Josef Onoh, the former spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu’s Southeast campaign, has praised Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for offering an apology to the Igbo people. Onoh stated that this gesture is a meaningful advancement toward peace and harmony between groups.
In a statement released in Abuja, Onoh highlighted that the governor’s decision shows strong leadership and a desire to heal the state. He defended Mutfwang against remarks made by Solomon Dalung, the former Minister of Sports, asserting that as the elected leader, the governor has full authority to champion initiatives for reconciliation.
Onoh argued that recognizing past wrongs helps restore confidence between communities. He compared the governor’s actions to historic apologies from leaders like Willy Brandt in Germany, Kevin Rudd in Australia, and Justin Trudeau in Canada, noting that such acts effectively mend societal fractures. Furthermore, he rejected the 72-hour ultimatum issued by Dalung, labeling it legally baseless. He concluded by encouraging Nigerians to prioritize dialogue over historical disputes to foster a more unified nation.
