Bode Ojajuni, the Commissioner of Police for Ogun State, recently stated that he has never accepted or requested a bribe throughout his career. He credits this firm commitment to integrity to the disciplined moral foundation established by his late father, who served as a lay preacher.
Ojajuni shared these reflections during the Sacrament of Confirmation at the St. Martin Catholic Police Chaplaincy in Abeokuta, an event led by Most Rev. Dr. Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo, the Catholic Bishop of the Abeokuta Diocese. The ceremony also included the blessing of a new Grotto of Our Mother of Perpetual Help and a ground-breaking event for the Catholic Chaplains’ House.
To illustrate his father’s strict ethical standards, the Commissioner recounted an incident from his early career. He once attempted to give his father money he had obtained as a loan from the Police Cooperative to help renovate their family home. His father refused the funds until the younger Ojajuni provided a formal certificate of indebtedness, ensuring the money was sourced through legitimate channels.
Beyond his professional history, Ojajuni emphasized the long-term benefits of raising children with spiritual and moral values. He suggested that such upbringing helps build honorable leaders who are less likely to fall victim to social misconduct. Furthermore, he shared personal anecdotes about his youth in Ondo State, where he developed a deep respect for different Christian denominations through interactions with the local Catholic community.
The Commissioner also reflected on his own career trajectory, noting that he often pays close attention to spiritual messages delivered through sermons and music. He concluded the event by praising the efforts of the clergy, specifically Rev. Fr. (CSP) Paul Omotosho, and encouraged the young confirmands to remain dedicated to their faith.
