An Akure Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State has ordered the remand of a labourer, Oladipo Akintade, at the Olokuta Custodial Centre for allegedly fatally stabbing Dole Akinrinola.

The 33-year-old defendant was arraigned before Magistrate R.I. Adelakin on a one-count charge of murder.

Akintade is accused of stabbing 45-year-old Akinrinola in the left rib during a fight. However, the reason for their quarrel was not disclosed in court.

Police prosecutor Folashade Adeyemi informed the court that the incident occurred on January 10, 2025, around 6 p.m. in Omifunfun, within the Ondo State Magisterial District.

According to Adeyemi, the defendant confronted the deceased over an unspecified matter, leading to an argument that escalated into violence, during which Akintade allegedly used a knife to stab him.

Akinrinola was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Adeyemi stated that the offence violates Section 316 and is punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Law of Ondo State, 2006.

The charge read, “That you, Oladipo Akintade, on January 10, 2025, at about 6:00pm, in Omifunfun Camp in the Ondo Magisterial District, did unlawfully k!ll one Dole Akinrinola ‘m’ aged 45, by st@bbing him with a knife on his left side rib, which resulted in his d3ath.”

The defendant’s plea was not taken.

Prosecutor Folashade Adeyemi requested the court to remand the defendant at a correctional facility in the state pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Magistrate R.I. Adelakin granted the request and ordered Akintade’s remand at the Olokuta Correctional Centre until the DPP’s legal advice is issued.

The case was adjourned until March 27, 2025, for mention.
