Ogun State Police apprehend 23 foreigners over visa and investment fraud

Ogun State police have detained 23 foreign nationals following a raid on a residence in Ota linked to a Ponzi scheme and visa fraud.

Authorities in Ogun State conducted a raid on a residence in the Ota region, resulting in the detention of 23 foreign nationals linked to an investment Ponzi scheme and visa fraud. The operation was confirmed by the state police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, in a report issued from Abeokuta on Monday.

Officers from the Atan-Ota Division carried out the arrests at approximately 11 a.m. on August 4. Acting on reliable intelligence regarding suspicious behavior at the property, law enforcement personnel surrounded and secured the building. Those detained faced accusations involving financial fraud and violations of immigration protocols.

By August 5, 21 of the individuals were transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service to face scrutiny regarding their residency status. Meanwhile, the Ogun Police Command kept two suspects in custody as they prepare to pursue charges related to obtaining money through false pretenses. The police investigation continues as officials seek to determine the full scope of the illicit operations.
