Law enforcement in Ogun State executed a targeted raid on a residence in the Ota area, resulting in the detention of 23 foreign nationals suspected of involvement in visa fraud and a Ponzi scheme. The operation occurred last Tuesday morning following a tip-off received by the Atan-Ota Police Division.
State police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed that the raid took place at a property near Iyana Iyesi, Onipanu-Ota. During the search, officers recovered a Malian passport belonging to an individual named Diakite Alfousseini. Authorities have since transferred 21 of the detainees to the Nigeria Immigration Service, while two remain in police custody to face charges related to obtaining money under false pretenses.
In a separate incident, officers from the Itele Division successfully apprehended a robbery suspect, Babatunde Olasunkanmi, after a motorcyclist reported an armed confrontation near Orji Block Area. The police recovered a homemade firearm, charms, a mobile phone, and a debit card from the scene. While one suspect is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta, police are still working to locate an accomplice who escaped with the victim’s motorcycle.
