Man dies after brutal beating by alleged cultists in Lagos over misplaced phone

A man identified as Azeez died in Lagos after being assaulted by suspected cultists during a dispute regarding a missing mobile phone.

A man named Azeez has died following a violent assault by suspected cultists in the Oko-Oba district of Agege, Lagos State. Authorities report that the incident was triggered by a disagreement over a missing mobile phone.

According to police sources, the confrontation began on August 3 after a party. Azeez reportedly argued with associates regarding the device, leading to a physical attack that proved fatal. An advocacy group known as Naija Confra suggested the conflict originated during a birthday party on August 2. They allege a man named Abela gave the phone to Azeez for safekeeping, only to deny doing so when the owner began searching for it.

The advocacy group claims the phone’s owner attacked Azeez after Abela refused to admit his role. A subsequent confrontation reportedly led to Azeez being taken to another location where he was further assaulted by members of the Neo-Black Movement. While the police confirmed the victim’s death, they have not yet clarified the full details or identities of those involved in the second attack.

Abimbola Adebisi, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police, has yet to comment on the matter. The case is currently under official investigation.
