Thomas Dugeri, the Majority Leader of the Benue State House of Assembly, has officially exited the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sign up with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. Dugeri, the representative for the Kwande West State Constituency, was welcomed into the opposition party by former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom during a meeting at the latter’s Abuja home. Adzua Ashongo, the Benue State PDP deputy chairman, facilitated the introduction.
Addressing the gathering, Dugeri voiced his gratitude toward the leadership for their warm reception and thanked his supporters in Kwande for their backing. He declared his full dedication to the party, pledging to collaborate with fellow members to bolster the PDP’s standing before the upcoming electoral cycle. According to the lawmaker, his decision stems from a desire to align with the party’s strategic goals.
Former Governor Ortom accepted the newcomers, promising that the party offers a level playing field for all individuals. He characterized the PDP as an inclusive organization where each participant contributes to the broader mission. Ortom concluded by encouraging Dugeri to engage with the team to help the party reclaim governance in Benue State in 2027.
