Cameroon knocks Nigeria out of WAFCON 2026

Nigeria’s defense of their WAFCON title ended on Sunday following a 1-0 quarter-final loss to Cameroon.

The Nigerian women’s national team, known as the Super Falcons, has exited the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a narrow 1-0 loss to Cameroon. The two sides met on Sunday for a quarter-final match that ended with the Nigerians failing to advance.

A 19th-minute free-kick from Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen proved to be the difference maker in the match. Despite persistent efforts from the Super Falcons to level the score and force extra time, the Cameroonian defense held firm until the final whistle.

As a result, Justine Madugu’s squad is officially unable to defend the title they secured during the previous tournament in Morocco. Nigeria is now scheduled to face South Africa this Thursday in Casablanca. This upcoming match is crucial, as the winner secures a spot in the Inter-Confederation playoff tournament.
