Renowned Legal Scholar Professor Alfred Kasunmu Passes Away at 90

Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, a prominent legal scholar and Baptist Academy alumnus, has died at age 90, with the Baptist Academy Old Students Association honoring his legacy of excellence.

The Baptist Academy Old Students Association (BAOSA) has confirmed the passing of Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN, a highly respected alumnus. A member of the 1953 graduating class, he passed away quietly on the morning of Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Olumide Ajomale, the Global President of BAOSA, issued an obituary noting Kasunmu’s profound impact as a legal expert, academic, and mentor. He was remembered for his dedication to the legal profession and his role in national progress. Beyond his professional life, the association highlighted his dedication to his family and his embodiment of the integrity and discipline foundational to Baptist Academy.

Last year, the association recognized his achievements by presenting him with the BAOSA Order of Excellence Award during their 170th Founders Day event. BAOSA praised his enduring influence, stating that his commitment to excellence will serve as a guide for future generations.

The association has requested that alumni worldwide offer their support and prayers for the Kasunmu family during this time. The family is scheduled to host visitors on August 15 and 16, 2026, between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., with formal funeral details to follow at a later date.
