The police in Akwa Ibom State have rescued a kidnapped victim in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area after engaging his abductors in a gun battle, forcing them to flee.
The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this to newsmen, attributing the successful operation to the command’s dedication to combating crime and ensuring the safety of residents.
According to the PPRO, the incident occurred on February 13, 2025, when a man (name withheld) was abducted along Okop Eto Road and taken to an unknown location. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the command launched a swift operation, engaging the kidnappers in a gunfight.
“Overwhelmed by superior firepower, the hoodlums fled with severe gunshot injuries, leaving the victim unharmed,” John said.
The PPRO also noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the officers for their quick action and reaffirmed the command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal activities.
He encouraged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious behavior to the nearest police station.
The rescued victim has been reunited with his family, and his stolen ash-colored Lexus RX 350 SUV was retrieved during the operation. The PPRO added that efforts are underway to track down the fleeing suspects, recover the weapons used in the crime, and ensure they are brought to justice.
