Tommy Makinson, the wing for Catalans Dragons, has confirmed he will conclude his professional rugby league career once the current season finishes. The 34-year-old previously spent a successful tenure at St Helens from 2011 to 2024, securing five Grand Final victories and a Challenge Cup title. Since signing with the French team in 2025, Makinson has recorded 20 tries across 37 games.
The announcement follows a 42-20 loss for Catalans against the Huddersfield Giants, which effectively ended the club’s chances of reaching the play-offs. Consequently, Makinson is set to play his final match on September 11 against his hometown club, the Wigan Warriors.
In a public statement, the former England international expressed deep gratitude for his career, noting that he had lived out his childhood ambition by playing for top-tier clubs in England and France. He emphasized his intention to cherish the final matches of his playing tenure and provide his full effort until the end.
