Although Inès Konan initiated the scoring for the Ivorians, Algeria responded with decisive goals from Inès Khiri and Amira Ould Braham. Notably, this achievement makes Algeria the first African nation to guarantee a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
In the subsequent quarter-final match, the host nation Morocco triumphed over South Africa with a 2-1 scoreline. The Atlas Lionesses established their lead through Sakina Ouzraoui, followed by a successful penalty kick from Hanan Ait El Haj. Thembi Kgatlana managed to score for Banyana Banyana in the 67th minute, though it served only as a late consolation.
The remaining quarter-final games are scheduled for Sunday, featuring Nigeria against Cameroon and Malawi facing off against Ghana.
