WAFCON 2026 Semi-Final Spots Secured by Two Nations

Algeria and Morocco have advanced to the 2026 WAFCON semi-finals following their respective victories over Ivory Coast and South Africa on Saturday.

On Saturday, the inaugural two semi-finalists for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations were determined. Algeria secured their position by overcoming Ivory Coast 2-1. Although Inès Konan initiated the scoring for the Ivorians, Algeria responded with decisive goals from Inès Khiri and Amira Ould Braham. Notably, this achievement makes Algeria the first African nation to guarantee a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

In the subsequent quarter-final match, the host nation Morocco triumphed over South Africa with a 2-1 scoreline. The Atlas Lionesses established their lead through Sakina Ouzraoui, followed by a successful penalty kick from Hanan Ait El Haj. Thembi Kgatlana managed to score for Banyana Banyana in the 67th minute, though it served only as a late consolation.

The remaining quarter-final games are scheduled for Sunday, featuring Nigeria against Cameroon and Malawi facing off against Ghana.
