In Casablanca on Saturday, Algeria staged a comeback to defeat Ivory Coast 2-1, earning their first-ever appearance in both the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals and the World Cup. Although Ines Konan gave the Ivorians an early lead in the 29th minute, the match shifted when N’Sira Ouedraogo received a red card for a dangerous challenge on Algerian goalkeeper Chloe N’Gazi.
Despite playing with ten women, Ivory Coast held on until the hour mark. Algeria capitalized on their numerical advantage as substitute Ines Khiri and Amira Braham scored within a six-minute window to secure the win. Ivory Coast had a golden opportunity to reclaim the lead during this period, but Rebecca Elloh hit the post with a penalty attempt.
Algeria now awaits the winner of the match between Ghana and Malawi. Meanwhile, other quarter-final action continues as Morocco plays South Africa, and Nigeria takes on Cameroon.
