Sam Amadi, the leader of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, has stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) lacks the legal standing to block a state’s bank account based solely on claims of fiscal mismanagement. Amadi shared these thoughts during a Friday appearance on the Arise Television program Prime Time, responding specifically to the agency’s recent action against the Osun State government.
He suggested that the move serves as a political tactic by the All Progressives Congress to pressure Governor Ademola Adeleke. Amadi emphasized that state administrations possess the authority to manage their own budgets. He argued that if financial misconduct occurs, officials should be held accountable through legal proceedings rather than having state funds frozen.
While Amadi acknowledged the current EFCC chairman as an innovative official dedicated to anti-corruption efforts, he noted that this situation serves as a significant trial of the leader’s independence. According to Amadi, the chairman must demonstrate an ability to remain impartial despite significant political influence.
