Worshippers at the Osun-Osogbo Festival cheered as Osunbunmi Moradeke, the Arugba, successfully led the procession into the Osun Sacred Grove while carrying the sacred votary. This milestone marks her first time performing the duty since her selection via Ifa divination in 2025 following her predecessor’s marriage. Moradeke was unable to carry the vessel during the previous year due to health reasons, leaving the task to the Baba Osun.
Representing Governor Ademola Adeleke, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi pledged that the state administration remains dedicated to safeguarding the Osun Sacred Grove. Adewusi highlighted the government’s resolve to promote local cultural traditions, noting that protecting this world-renowned heritage site is a primary objective.
Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, addressed the crowd by emphasizing the need to modernize the festival. He suggested that integrating digital tools and live streaming could broaden the event’s international reach and economic influence. Adams urged the Federal Government to increase its involvement, suggesting that technological innovation is essential for engaging younger generations and maintaining the cultural legacy of the Yoruba people.
