A 14-year-old student killed seven people and injured more than 30 after launching an attack at his residence and school near Bangkok. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed the youth murdered his grandparents and five educators before dying by suicide. The shooter, who utilized a 9mm handgun belonging to his grandfather, still possessed over 30 rounds of ammunition when he turned the weapon on himself.
The incident occurred at a branch of the prestigious Debsirin School in Nonthaburi province. Police officials noted that the gunman displayed precise accuracy, targeting vital areas during the assault. Authorities described the event as a premeditated act with specific objectives. Nine victims remain in critical condition as the community grapples with the violence.
Witnesses described chaotic scenes, with students initially mistaking gunfire for firecrackers or construction noise. One seventh-grade pupil reported seeing the assailant move between classrooms and fatally wound a teacher at the door. Following the tragedy, surrounding schools closed early to ensure student safety, and the school issued an urgent appeal for blood donations.
While Thailand maintains strict gun control regulations, the nation experiences high rates of private firearm ownership, with a significant portion of weapons held illegally.
