Assistant manager Shaun Maloney confirmed that Celtic boss Martin O’Neill remains without a set return date following a medical procedure earlier this week. The 74-year-old manager, who left the hospital on Thursday, will personally decide if he is fit enough to attend Sunday’s away match against Kilmarnock.
Maloney reported that O’Neill appeared to be in good spirits during a visit on Wednesday evening. While the manager was present for Monday’s victory over Dundee, his presence on the touchline this weekend remains a day-to-day decision. Maloney stated he would consult with O’Neill to determine the next steps.
Regarding the team, Maloney acknowledged that missing O’Neill would be difficult given the manager’s significant impact since his return last October. However, the squad is well-prepared to step up. In terms of transfers, Maloney indicated no immediate signings are expected before the weekend, noting that player recruitment remains under the purview of O’Neill and chief executive Michael Nicholson. Furthermore, Maloney confirmed he expects key players Arne Engels and Alistair Johnston to be available for the upcoming fixture.
