The Osun State Police Command has issued a firm alert to cultists, thieves, and troublemakers, cautioning them against using the upcoming 2026 Osun-Osogbo Festival as an opportunity to engage in illicit activities. On behalf of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, stated that anyone found disturbing the peace would encounter the full severity of the law.
Commissioner Gotan guaranteed that robust security protocols are in place to protect residents, tourists, and worshippers throughout the duration of the event. Because the festival draws thousands of international and local visitors, the police are prioritizing the safety of all participants.
To maintain order, police leadership has instructed Area Commanders and tactical units to deploy personnel across Osogbo, focusing on high-traffic areas, tourist sites, and key access roads. The Command is working alongside traditional leaders, government agencies, and community stakeholders to facilitate rapid responses to potential security threats. Additionally, authorities have planned comprehensive measures for crowd control, traffic management, and emergency readiness.
The public is encouraged to stay alert and notify the police of any suspicious behavior. Parents are urged to keep a close watch on children in large crowds, and drivers are reminded to adhere to traffic rules. Commissioner Gotan thanked the people of Osun State for their ongoing cooperation in helping maintain a secure environment for the festivities.
