Victor Osimhen explains choice to bypass Galatasaray’s No.9 jersey

Victor Osimhen has explained why he declined the iconic number nine jersey at Galatasaray, preferring to keep his lucky number 45.

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has explained his choice to pass on the number nine shirt at Galatasaray, opting to retain his number 45 jersey for the upcoming campaign.

After completing a permanent move to the Turkish giants following a productive loan stint from Napoli, the Nigerian star has established himself as a key contributor. There was significant discussion regarding him inheriting the vacant number nine shirt previously worn by Mauro Icardi, but Osimhen opted to keep his existing number throughout preseason.

Speaking to Sabah, the striker clarified his reasoning. He noted that while the club might generate more revenue from kit sales with the iconic number, he feels a personal connection to number 45. He described it as a lucky charm during his tenure at Rams Park and expressed a desire to maintain continuity.

The forward has already begun his preparations for the new season, scoring during a 3-3 preseason friendly against Rennes. Fans have embraced him since his arrival, and he remains focused on maintaining his high level of play as the season approaches.
