The federal government has rebuffed allegations made by Donald Duke, the Peoples Redemption Party presidential candidate, who suggested the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project would stall before leaving Lagos State. Officials stated that construction has already progressed into Ogun State, rendering Duke’s assertions factually incorrect.
Tope Ajayi, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, characterized the former Cross River State governor’s comments as politically charged and disconnected from the current status of the development. Ajayi emphasized that while Duke claimed the road would terminate near Epe, active construction is currently underway in sections of Ogun, Ondo, and Akwa Ibom states.
Addressing the criticism on social media, the presidential aide suggested that such remarks stem from poor political motivations rather than objective observation. Donald Duke, who led Cross River State between 1999 and 2007, has been vocal in questioning the necessity and scope of the infrastructure project, a stance the Presidency maintains is contrary to visible progress.
