Law enforcement in Delta State successfully disrupted a kidnapping plot targeting a pastor and a former school head in Ughelli. According to state police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe, the operation took place on July 31, 2026, after authorities received actionable intelligence.
Officers from the Ughelli ‘A’ Division tracked down 26-year-old Jeremiah, who was accused of trying to organize a criminal group for the express purpose of abducting the two individuals. The suspect was taken into custody at his workplace. During the subsequent search, police recovered a single-barrel shotgun along with two live cartridges.
The suspect remains in custody as authorities continue their investigation. Delta State Police Commissioner Yemi Oyeniyi praised the officers for their efficient response. He emphasized the department’s dedication to proactive, intelligence-based police work and encouraged citizens to assist in maintaining public security by reporting suspicious activities.
