Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) has introduced Truth API, a premium service offering high-speed access to influential posts on the Truth Social platform. By providing real-time data feeds in milliseconds, the company aims to monetize its platform and create a revenue stream for the currently unprofitable firm. The service is primarily targeted at high-frequency and algorithmic trading firms, which rely on rapid information processing to execute automated trades.
While TMTG has not confirmed if the service includes posts from Donald Trump, the former president’s account is the most influential on the platform. The prospect of TMTG profiting from presidential statements has sparked debate regarding ethics and potential conflicts of interest, as Trump retains a significant ownership stake in the company. Critics, including Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff, have questioned whether the service could facilitate illegal insider trading and have requested an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
In response to these allegations, TMTG defended the service, asserting that the data is publicly available and dismissing the accusations as politically motivated mischaracterizations of standard market practices. Industry experts remain divided on the viability of the service, noting that while similar data-delivery models exist, the intersection of political power and financial advantage presents a unique ethical dilemma that distinguishes this case from conventional market data providers.
