Police Rescue Officer and Two Others from Kidnappers in Edo
The Edo State Police Command has reported the successful rescue of a police officer, ASP Elisha Jeremiah, along with two other individuals who were abducted by gunmen on January 29, 2025.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu, this information was shared in a statement to the press on Tuesday in Benin City.
Yamu confirmed that the police officer is assigned to the FCID Abuja.
The other two rescued victims were identified as Oyedele Ebenezer from Ogbidi Road, Uromi, and Useni Malam Inusa.
He mentioned that the victims were freed by operatives from the command’s Ubiaja division, who collaborated with local hunters and vigilantes during the operation.
The command’s statement reads in part: “Following the kidnap of some travelers on board a Toyota Sienna from Abuja heading to Onitsha in Anambra State, which occurred along the Okhuesan-Ewohimi Road on 29/01/2025 at about 1840hrs,
“Operatives of Ubiaja Divisional Headquarters, in a joint operation with other tactical teams, immediately went on the trail of the kidnappers.
“The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, ordered the additional deployment of Police Mobile Force Personnel with instructions to ensure the rescue of the victims and the arrest of the perpetrators.
“The team, acting on intelligence, mobilized to the bushes around Ugbebor today at about 1530hrs, in partnership with local hunters and vigilantes. This effort paid off, as the kidnappers abandoned their victims and fled when they sensed that the operatives were closing in on them.
“Those rescued include ASP Elisha Jeremiah attached to FCID Abuja, Oyedele Ebenezer of Ogbidi Road, Uromi, and Useni Malam Inusa. The victims are currently receiving treatment and will soon be reunited with their loved ones,” he said.
