The Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a warning regarding a potential strike. This follows the Ondo State Government’s delay in adopting the new salary structure mandated by the Federal Government in December 2025.
Academic operations are already halted at the institution due to an indefinite strike initiated on July 10, 2026, regarding unpaid wages. AAUA ASUU Chairman, Bolu Oshodi, stated that the ongoing salary issues necessitate immediate government action. He noted that other institutions, such as EKSU, BSU, UNIOSUN, LAUTECH, and KWASU, have already successfully implemented the new pay scale.
Oshodi criticized the current monthly subvention of N223 million, describing it as insufficient to cover the university’s N550 million monthly wage bill. While the university has historically used internally generated revenue to bridge the gap, the union insists that the government must increase its financial commitment. Currently, AAUA, OAUSTECH, and UNIMED remain the only state universities failing to honor the 2025 salary agreement.
Furthermore, the union is seeking payment for arrears accumulated since January 2026. Addressing the reported N1.1 billion intervention fund, Oshodi confirmed that while the government claims to have released the money, employees have yet to see these funds in their accounts due to pending banking procedures. The union maintains that no work will resume until these outstanding payments are confirmed.
