Will Kuntz, the general manager of the LA Galaxy, revealed that Brazilian midfielder Casemiro previously stated he had intentions to play only for his team. This disclosure comes as Major League Soccer investigates the circumstances surrounding the player’s recent move to Inter Miami.
Casemiro, 34, joined Inter Miami on a free transfer from Manchester United this past July. He signed a contract running through the 2027 season, which includes an extension option until mid-2029. During his recent debut period, the midfielder scored an own goal in a 2-2 tie against Columbus Crew.
Following an LA Galaxy match against Dallas, Kuntz addressed the ongoing MLS probe into the transfer. He confirmed reports that Casemiro had expressed interest in the Galaxy two months before he finalized his deal with Inter Miami. The league is currently examining the acquisition process, specifically regarding discovery rights, which grant a team priority in signing certain players. While both clubs have reached a settlement regarding these rights, full details remain sealed until the official investigation concludes.
Casemiro has publicly defended his choice, noting his family’s affinity for the city of Miami and his desire to join the team’s project alongside Lionel Messi. The league has stated it will not offer further comments until the review is finished.
