While this figure represents the nation’s joint-third highest medal haul, it fell short of the 36 medals secured during the 2018 Gold Coast Games. Despite the condensed nature of the Glasgow event, the performance marked an improvement over the 28 medals earned in Birmingham in 2022.
Sprint cyclist Emma Finucane emerged as the standout performer, securing four gold medals across four consecutive days, a historic achievement for a Welsh athlete. Cycling proved to be the most successful sport for the team, contributing 11 medals in total. Notable individual efforts included swimmer Matt Richards, who became the first Welsh swimmer to claim four medals in a single Games, and gymnast Ruby Evans, who rebounded from disappointment to secure a gold medal on the floor.
The Games also highlighted strong performances from Para-athletes, who accounted for 10 of Wales’ medals. Figures such as Olivia Breen, Aled Davies, and the bowls pair of Steffan James and Julie Thomas were among those contributing to the success. Conversely, the boxing team ended without a gold for the first time since 2014, and the netball squad faced a difficult tournament, finishing 10th. As the event concludes, focus shifts toward the next Commonwealth Games scheduled for 2030 in Ahmedabad, India.
