Team Nigeria concluded its participation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow by securing seventh place overall. The athletes earned 24 medals across various disciplines, including athletics, judo, weightlifting, and para-sports.
With a total of 10 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze medals, Nigeria outperformed all other African nations, including South Africa and Kenya. Australia led the global rankings with 171 medals, followed by England and Canada.
Athletics provided several standout moments. Samuel Ogazi achieved a historic victory in the men’s 400 metres, marking the first time a Nigerian has won gold in that event. Ezekiel Nathaniel followed suit, becoming the first Nigerian man to secure the Commonwealth title in the 400m hurdles. Additionally, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi earned the country’s first gold medal in the men’s shot put.
Other notable track and field results included silver medals for Ruth Usoro in the long jump and Udodi Onwuzurike in the 200 metres. Ella Onojuvwevwo won bronze in the 400 metres, ending a 32-year medal drought for Nigeria in that race, while Tobi Amusan added a bronze medal in the 100m hurdles. The relay teams also performed well, with both the mixed 4x400m and men’s 4x100m squads earning bronze.
The successful campaign was supported by strong performances in weightlifting, para-sports, and judo. The Glasgow Games, which spanned 11 days, hosted athletes from 74 nations and drew over 630,000 spectators.
