President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran has called for the United States to uphold the commitments outlined in their signed Memorandum of Understanding. Pezeshkian emphasized that the agreement received full legislative approval from Iran’s Parliament and is intended to serve as a primary pillar of the nation’s future diplomatic strategy.
Writing on social media this Sunday, the President asserted that the pact would bolster security for Iran, its neighboring region, and its allies. The document was initially finalized on June 17, 2026, through Pakistani mediation, aiming to cease military engagements, terminate U.S. naval blockades, and restore transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite these objectives, a temporary diplomatic truce established after the signing failed in July due to confrontations at Hormuz, leading to renewed airstrikes. In response to regional tensions, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that discussions regarding a transit route with Oman are nearing completion. However, Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei clarified that the Omani deal is independent of the status of the Strait of Hormuz. Additionally, Baghaei noted that Iran received diplomatic assurances from Bulgaria, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom that they intend to remain neutral in any potential conflict involving Iran.
