Pastor Tunde Bakare, the leader of the Citadel Global Community Church, recently criticized many Nigerian politicians, labeling them as ‘termite kings’ who focus on consumption rather than national development. He made these remarks during the unveiling of his book collection, Strategic Intervention in Governance, which includes 104 speeches spanning from 2008 to 2025.
Addressing attendees, Bakare advocated for an ‘ant mentality’ among leadership, emphasizing the necessity of communal effort and sacrifice for long-term progress. He argued that the current democratic framework fails to provide the sustained unity required to build a prosperous nation. Instead of fragmentation, he encouraged leaders to focus on creating a constitutional foundation that fosters cohesive growth.
The cleric also lamented the degradation of Nigeria’s public education sector, which he linked to years of insufficient funding and policy failures. Reflecting on his own experience, he noted that while he received a quality education within Nigeria, he was forced to send his children abroad for schooling due to the domestic system’s decline. He warned that the failure of education directly threatens the nation’s stability.
Beyond criticism, Bakare called for a shift in values and a focus on youth empowerment through technology, vocational training, and innovation. He urged the younger generation to take charge of their future and restore the national vision. Former Ogun State Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba praised the book for its analytical depth, comparing Bakare’s solution-oriented approach to that of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. The event was attended by prominent figures, including Professor Folasade Ogunsola and Senator Solomon Adeola.
