Team Wales concluded their 2026 Commonwealth Games campaign in Glasgow by securing 31 medals, consisting of nine gold, 10 silver, and 12 bronze. This performance has been officially declared a success, placing the team ninth in the overall medal table.
The gold medal haul featured six victories in track cycling, two in athletics, and one in gymnastics. Olympic cycling star Emma Finucane stood out as a premier performer, claiming a record four gold medals during the event. Across all disciplines, the team total included 11 cycling medals, six in swimming, five in athletics, four in boxing, three in gymnastics, and one each in weightlifting and bowls.
Chef de mission Gethin Jones expressed pride in the team’s accomplishments, noting that the tally exceeded expectations based on the reduced scale of the Glasgow event compared to the 2022 Birmingham Games. Beyond the statistical success, Jones praised the positive team culture and the resilience of the athletes.
While celebrating the achievements, Jones emphasized that the result does not diminish the financial and support challenges facing various sports in Wales. He urged businesses and the public to maintain their investment and enthusiasm for Welsh sports over the next four years to build upon the momentum generated in Glasgow.
