Real Madrid Applauds FIFA’s Decision to Abandon Private World Cup Investment

Real Madrid has formally welcomed FIFA’s decision to drop plans for private investment in the World Cup following widespread opposition from UEFA.

Real Madrid has publicly supported FIFA’s choice to cancel a contentious proposal that would have invited private investment into the World Cup. Gianni Infantino, the head of FIFA, was compelled to retract the plan on Friday following significant opposition from UEFA and various other football confederations.

In an official statement, the Spanish club described the reversal as a positive development for football institutions and the sport’s global fanbase. Real Madrid specifically thanked UEFA and the other governing bodies for their collective efforts in opposing the proposal, which the club believes protected the integrity of the sport.

The abandoned plan, introduced by FIFA last Tuesday, sought to establish a commercial entity to manage major tournaments like the World Cup and the Club World Cup, with an aim to generate $4.2 billion through private backing. UEFA had responded to the announcement with a threat to boycott FIFA events, citing a complete loss of trust in Infantino’s leadership.
