2027 Lagos Polls: Funsho Doherty Calls for Conscious Voting and Credible Leadership

NDC governorship candidate Funsho Doherty encourages Lagos voters to prioritize integrity over personal gain in the 2027 election, while local clergy calls for selfless leadership and national unity.

Funsho Doherty, the governorship candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2027 Lagos State election, has called on voters to prioritize integrity and competence when choosing their next leaders. Speaking at the 40th anniversary of St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church in Surulere, Doherty emphasized that residents must look past immediate rewards to secure the long-term future of the state.

Highlighting that the same political party has held power in Lagos for over 25 years, Doherty argued that democracy requires healthy competition and fresh perspectives. He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to maintain electoral integrity, ensuring that every vote is respected as the true reflection of the people’s will.

Outlining his vision, Doherty promised that an NDC government would focus on enhancing public welfare. His proposed initiatives include modernizing healthcare, upgrading transportation infrastructure, bolstering security, and fostering economic growth through support for small businesses and youth empowerment programs.

During the same event, Rev. Chidi Ukachukwu, the Vicar and Archdeacon of St. Bartholomew’s, echoed these sentiments. He urged politicians to practice selfless service and asked citizens to participate actively in the electoral process while maintaining peace and unity. The clergyman encouraged Nigerians to remain optimistic, suggesting that a combination of accountability, faith, and collective effort can overcome current national challenges.
