Trent Rockets edge past Sunrisers Leeds in tight finish

Trent Rockets held off a late comeback attempt by Sunrisers Leeds to secure a five-run win, marking their third straight victory in the tournament.

The Trent Rockets secured their third consecutive victory by narrowly defeating the defending champions, Sunrisers Leeds, by five runs at Trent Bridge. Defending a total of 139, the Rockets managed to stifle the opposition early, leaving the Sunrisers struggling at 76-4.

A late surge led by Annabel Sutherland and Lauren Winfield-Hill brought the Sunrisers back into contention, as they required 55 runs from the final 20 balls. Sutherland struck Georgia Elwiss for 23 runs in one set to create a tense finish. Despite a late run-out of Winfield-Hill, Sutherland remained not out on 59 off 30 balls, though the Sunrisers ultimately fell just short.

Earlier, Sophia Dunkley provided the Rockets with momentum, hitting 56 from 33 balls. While the team reached 105-2, a disciplined bowling performance from Jess Jonassen and Hannah Baker limited the hosts to 139-7. This win moves the Trent Rockets to within four points of the Southern Brave, while the Sunrisers sit in seventh place.
