Ollie Cooper is preparing to depart Swansea City for a season-long loan with a League One side. Head coach Vitor Matos confirmed that while the clubs have reached an agreement, the transfer is pending finalization. The 26-year-old midfielder, an academy graduate who has appeared 118 times for the senior squad and scored nine goals, found himself limited to a single substitute appearance under Matos during the current campaign. This follows a stint at Wigan Athletic that was terminated early in January after he managed only 13 appearances.
Matos emphasized that Cooper has reached a stage in his career where consistent playing time is essential for his development. As the player’s contract expires next summer, this move could potentially mark the conclusion of his tenure with the Championship club. Cooper, who has been with Swansea since childhood, was absent from the squad during Saturday’s pre-season win over Leganes. He is expected to join other academy alumni including Liam Cullen, Sam Parker, and Cameron Congreve, the latter of whom is nearing a move to Belgian side Westerlo for a significant fee.
