Alleged cable thief dies from electrocution in Jigawa

A suspected cable vandal was electrocuted in Jigawa State after power was restored while he was allegedly attempting to tamper with electric lines.

A man suspected of stealing electric cables lost his life after being electrocuted in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Saturday. Local witnesses reported that the individual was tampering with power infrastructure at Sintilmawa village along the Ringim-Dutse road when electricity unexpectedly returned, causing an instant fatal shock.

Police spokesperson SP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the event on Sunday. Authorities were alerted to a body found on the Ringim-Sintilmawa road at approximately 9:00 a.m. Responding officers discovered significant burn marks on the victim’s chest, pelvic area, and hands. Tools found near the scene, including a hacksaw, gloves, and sacks, suggested the man was in the process of vandalizing utility equipment.

Medical personnel at the Ringim General Hospital pronounced the victim dead upon arrival. Police are currently working to identify the individual, and the body remains in the hospital mortuary while investigations continue.
