Birmingham Phoenix ended their winless streak in the women’s Hundred by defeating Welsh Fire by seven wickets at Edgbaston. Alice Capsey and Ellyse Perry led the charge, chasing down a target of 145 with just one ball remaining. Jude Bellingham, a minority shareholder, attended the match to watch the home side secure the victory.
Capsey contributed 51 runs from 29 balls, while captain Perry remained unbeaten on 68 from 46 deliveries. Their partnership of 86 runs was crucial after the early loss of Davina Perrin and Tammy Beaumont. Although Phoenix faced pressure following Capsey’s late dismissal, Perry secured the win by hitting a timely six and a four off Heather Graham.
For Welsh Fire, Georgia Voll continued her strong form by scoring 78 runs off 55 balls. Despite her efforts and a quick 35 from Sophie Devine, the team’s slow start in the powerplay proved costly. Lauren Filer impressed with the ball for Phoenix, conceding only 15 runs in her 20 deliveries. This result lifts Birmingham Phoenix to fifth in the standings, while Welsh Fire drops to seventh.
