Lekan Fatodu, the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, has officially announced that Lagos will serve as the venue for the 2026 CAF Awards. The event is scheduled to take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, a facility formerly known as the National Theatre.
This prestigious annual gala honors the top contributors to African football, including athletes, coaches, and administrators. By hosting this ceremony, Nigeria reinforces its status as a premier location for significant sporting events on the continent. The iconic venue, recognized for its unique architectural design, has become a center for national cultural renewal.
The awards will recognize excellence in numerous fields, such as the Player of the Year for both men and women, alongside honors for the best coaches, clubs, and national teams. In addition to this event, Nigeria is set to hold the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in October. This selection follows previous times Nigeria has hosted the awards, including ceremonies in 2015 and 2017 where stars like Riyad Mahrez and Asisat Oshoala were celebrated for their achievements.
