England’s netball team has been knocked out of the Commonwealth Games gold-medal hunt following a 61-54 loss to New Zealand in the semi-final. While the Roses can still compete for a bronze medal, they were unable to replicate their historic 2018 final appearance. The Silver Ferns, led by shooter Grace Nweke, proved too difficult to overcome due to their height advantage and precise passing.
New Zealand established an early 16-11 lead by the end of the first quarter. Although England introduced Eleanor Cardwell to boost their intensity and managed to narrow the gap to 25-21 in the second period, they struggled to maintain consistent scoring. By the start of the final quarter, New Zealand had extended their lead to nine points. Despite a late rally from England, the deficit remained too large to bridge. New Zealand will now move on to the final on Sunday to face either Australia or Jamaica.
