Brazil Superstar Neymar in Talks with Three MLS Teams Over Potential Move
Brazilian football star Neymar, who currently plays for Al Hilal, is said to be in initial discussions about a potential move to the United States.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle, Neymar is speaking with three teams from Major League Soccer (MLS), with the Chicago Fire showing the most concrete interest. The Fire, who finished near the bottom of the league standings, recently appointed Gregg Berhalter, former coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team, as their new manager.
ESPN also reported that Inter Miami is not one of the teams pursuing Neymar, with the club’s new manager, Javier Mascherano, stating that signing the 32-year-old Brazilian winger would be “impossible” due to MLS’s financial restrictions.
However, sources close to Neymar in Brazil suggest that the player still hopes to reunite with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, potentially forming the iconic ‘MSN’ front line once again at Inter Miami.
Neymar, 32, has faced a challenging period at Al Hilal following his move from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023 for $97.6 million. His time at the Saudi Arabian club took a setback when he tore the ACL in his left knee while on international duty, which sidelined him for a significant portion of his first season with the club.
Neymar made his return to the field in October after recovering from his ACL injury, but a subsequent hamstring issue has limited his impact this season.
The Brazilian forward has only made seven appearances in league and cup competitions, scoring one goal in an AFC Champions League group stage match against Nassaji Mazandaran on October 3, 2023.
With his contract at Al Hilal set to run through June 2025, Neymar is eligible to start negotiating with other clubs for a potential move.
