Professor Joash Amupitan, the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has guaranteed that the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election scheduled for August 15 will be decided strictly by voter choice. He shared this commitment during a Friday meeting with the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji.
Amupitan noted that the Osun poll serves as a significant indicator for the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that the electorate, not violence, should determine the state’s leadership. Although he admitted to elevated political tension, he confirmed that the commission is coordinating with the police, the Minister of Defence, and top service chiefs to secure the area. The goal is to deploy extra security personnel to prevent unrest.
In response, Oba Oyetunji commended the commission’s efforts while emphasizing the importance of delivering a transparent and fair electoral process. He encouraged the INEC team to prioritize credibility during the exercise.
