Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk is eligible to resume professional football immediately. This decision follows a partial victory in his appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which concludes a long-standing disciplinary process that sidelined the player since late 2024.
As reported by BBC Sport, the 25-year-old Ukrainian national team member faced a provisional suspension from the Football Association following a positive test for meldonium during international duty in November 2024. Although initially issued a four-year ban, the CAS panel determined that the athlete could return to play now, acknowledging the duration he already sat out as sufficient penalty.
The ruling highlighted that the concentration of the substance in his system was minimal. CAS noted that current WADA technical reporting standards are different; had the testing occurred under present guidelines, the sample would not have triggered an adverse finding. The FA and WADA reached a mutual agreement with Mudryk to resolve the appeal.
Chelsea expressed satisfaction regarding the ruling and intends to reintegrate Mudryk into the team. The club expects him to participate in the upcoming pre-season tour in Hong Kong under head coach Xabi Alonso. Throughout the ordeal, Mudryk consistently stated he never intentionally consumed any banned substances.
